Past Event - Judging Dahlias

Jerry, Randy, and Ron invite you to join them for a series of Zoom conversations about dahlias and particularly about judging dahlias. The American Dahlia Society has developed a series of 16 modules that cover the dahlia judging process from A to Z. The modules are available in the members-only portion of the ADS website, dahlia.org (the password is inside of the print publication of the Bulletin. If you aren't an ADS member, you will need to sign up to participate).

These modules are a wonderful summary of judging, and they will be of great benefit to not only the beginner grower but also our experienced Senior Judges. We encourage everyone to join us! DSO judges should consider the discussions to be an important part of our training effort this year.

The first Zoom meeting will be at 7:00PM on Tuesday evening, March 5, 2024. We will do our best to wrap up each discussion in 90 minutes. The meetings will continue each week, wrapping up on March 26. The plan is for everyone to walk through assigned modules before each meeting, then Jerry, Randy, and Ron will review the information at the Zoom meeting.

Last week we covered the introduction to the modules and form. The second class was on color. The third session covered the “Other Half” (Substance, Stem, Foliage, Bloom Position, Uniformity, and Floriferousness); and the last session, on March 26, will cover Show Judging and Trial Garden Judging. As you move through the modules, please complete the forms at the end of the session registering the fact that you have completed them.

Zoom link will be provided by email.
